Swift App School Offers Need-Based Scholarships for App Camp

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(ASHEVILLE, N.C.) June 6, 2023 – The end of the school year means it’s time for summer camps, and this year, middle and high school students age 13+ have the chance to learn how to code apps for iPhones and iPads at Swift App School’s Summer App Camp.

From June 26 through June 30, App Campers will meet at the Hatch Innovation Hub in downtown Asheville from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to learn how to program using Apple’s Swift programming language. This year, need-based scholarships are available to interested students.

“We are excited to be able to offer App Summer Camp to students from underserved communities,” said Co-Founder and Instructor Bob Williams. “Swift App School’s mission is to empower the next generation of app developers – we want to be accessible to any student interested in app development, regardless of their background in programming. We provide scholarships so that money doesn’t have to be a barrier to access the camp.”

Swift App School’s App Camp is limited to sessions of 25 students so instructors can offer individualized guidance as campers step through computer science fundamentals – many for the first time. Using Apple’s SwiftUI framework, the students will work together to create an app and a SpriteKit game by the end of the week-long camp. They will even have a chance to try out Apple’s AR (Augmented Reality) framework! And see what it might be like to build an app for Apple’s newly announced
Vision Pro headset.

Having taught Swift to teens for the past six years, Summer App Camp teachers help beginning coders learn to grasp intermediate concepts. Swift App School’s mission is to help young people gain confidence in their coding ability by learning the fundamentals of creating apps by teaching them Swift, Apple’s open-source programming language.
